Can also confirm that Patriot Memory will also honor DD4 lifetime warranty albeit their communication does leave a lot to be desired.

It is actually sad that customers are so abused by these companies, that one feels loyalty after having their warranty fulfilled.

A company that complies with the terms of the sale is acting appropriately. Those who do not are thieves committing fraud.

I understand why in this climate this made the news, it’s just sad that we are at that point.

A reminder not to let your rights and expectations slowly be chipped away. I’m glad the customer got their replacement.

Few commenters so far seem to have read the article.

It’s not notable that they’re complying with their warranty terms, but that they shipped him a replacement kit when providing a refund of the original purchase price also fulfills the terms of the warranty.

However, we have heard a lot of RMA horror stories this year as RAM and SSD prices skyrocketed. Many vendors have started providing refunds instead of replacements, citing limited or no inventory, as their intent appears to be to sell the product for a much higher margin.

We have seen how companies like Crucial and Samsung have straight-up refused to honor the warranty claim despite agreeing to the replacement initially, offering only a refund, which is only a fraction of the current cost of the product

I don’t see how that claims that refund also fulfills the terms of the warranty. In fact, looking at the G.SKILL RMA policy there is never a mention of a refund option, only a return and replacement.

If the claim is that these companies are able to bend or hide the terms of their RMA policies then this is an issue with the legal system itself for allowing this. In fact, I would wager that a fight in small claims court would see the customer win any dispute.

Are you reading something I’m not?

I’m all-in camp Adata these days.

Bought some used ram, where one stick was bad and because the warranty is for the stick not the purchaser, they warrantied it.

Don’t you think it’s a big problem for the ‘market theory’ of value that producing and raising children, perhaps the most important human activity, is low-wage or entirely unpaid?

Do you believe that the economy would be better if women stopped having worthless children?

Econ101 makes perfect sense, unless you think about it.

Cue the vulture grey-market people who will slice any angle to not get a productive job; they’ll buy off ebay in bulk and see how much velocity providers will allow before they institute a more protective policy, e.g. refund only. Sigh.

Nice things were taken away from us, now people are desperate which also reinforces why we can’t have nice things.
