Amazon doesn’t really make a lot of games, so the company had to buy third-party games to make the cloud game streaming service Luna actually work. Like Google with Stadia, Amazon Luna allowed users to buy full-priced games that could be streamed on the service, but this function is being retired and the store is being shut down today, April 10, 2026.
If you did buy games via Luna’s storefront, you can still stream those games through the service until June. “After June 10, 2026, previously purchased a-la-carte titles will no longer be playable on Luna,” the FAQ says.
You’ll own nothing and like it.
I completely forgot about this
Why can’t they get a Steam/GOG/Windows Store Key for the games from the Luna store which will sunsetted? That seems like the reasons way forward if they don’t want to run the Luna storefront.
Or am I missing something? From my understanding, the article states that only “bring your own game” entries can be played on other platforms (of course they can, since the game are probably from Steam,/GOG etc.).
They’re probably wagering that any legal battles arising from this move will be easier to deal with than actually being pro-consumer. Fuck Amazon.
TIL there’s a thing service called Luna.
Still rockin my 2019 build, you can’t take my PC away from me and replace it with this bait and switch shit. When will people understand this way of gaming is just going to ruin everything?
No different than stadia, or Netflix pulling shows, etc. I have tons of gog games sitting on my hard drive which I’ve been installing for years and years. It’s mine.
Sailing the high seas is the only sure way to keep the games you buy, support small studios and indie devs, fuck “AAA” companies and avoid streaming services like the plague they are.
Name it in the god damn headline.
