Business Idiots. It’s a pervasive problem. The people making decisions are not the people doing labor. They’re often so far removed from normal life, that they can’t even relate to regular humans anymore. How is some asshole with a full time personal assistant and high six figure salary supposed to relate to someone making median income and renting with 2 housemates?

Crawl: Stone Soup is an excellent traditional roguelike. No metagame. Every run is independent (aside from occasionally running into ghosts of past characters, but those have been way toned down in recent versions)

The biggest threat is hubris and inattention. I lose a lot of characters from stubbornly just attacking them instead of actually using resources.

I also don’t have a lot of money for fun because no one is hiring because all the psychotic C-suite think AI is going to replace everyone. Or they think they can just squeeze labor harder and use AI as an excuse.

But either way, fuck Microsoft.

The problem has never ever ever been words per minute. That is a completely irrelevant metric. A distraction.

Anything the AI produces is going to need to be evaluated by a person, and that is a more difficult, less rewarding task.

And if it doesn’t need to be reviewed by a person because it’s magically flawless, that’s extremely anti-labor so fuck that.

Every coworker I’ve seen that uses AI code tools heavily is bad. They produce (or at least push) nonsense code they don’t understand.

I would rather have a team that goes slowly and understands what they’re building than a team of excitable slop pushers going a thousand lines a second.

Some are DRM free and can be backed up at your leisure. I’m pretty sure that’s up to the developer to implement or not.

It would be neat if steam let you sell a game back, but I’m not sure how to square that with “you have a drm free copy that’s trivial to copy”

I was going to point out how heroic launcher is fine, but that’s not a store.

That’s not really Valve’s fault that all the other storefronts don’t care to support Linux, though.

Guild Wars 2 is the only MMO that doesn’t aggravate me.

• Feels like a real video game. You can dodge and stuff.
• Other players can only help. No “kill stealing”
• Other players are frictionless. They show up, do whatever, leave. No need to make a formal party
• Level cap doesn’t go up. No need to chase stats forever.

You do have to buy the expansions, but the core game is free now.

Oh, hard to pick! Maria was a good fight. I finished it by parrying her with the pistol, and then missed the critical attack so I just bonked her and she fell over. Still counts!

Moon presence was also pretty cool, and felt like it was a few tweaks from being Really Hard. It does that move where your health goes down to 1 and you have to rally it all back! Luckily for me the axe is good for rallying, and the boss is very generous about waiting for you. Elden Ring feels like it wouldn’t have given such a long recovery opening!

I finished it and the dlc! The orphan was tricky. I don’t think anything took more than five tries though. Hunter’s axe is MVP.

Definitely a good game. Interesting setting.

Tried a bit of a new game with the cane sword and it’s way less solid.

Finally got around to playing Bloodborne. It’s good, but after playing Elden Ring it seems easier than expected.

Windows is pretty bad. Microsoft should be split up. If I had the magic powers, its leadership would be stripped of wealth, barred from holding similar positions for life, and have their faces on some sort of wall of shame. Everyone is allowed to throw trash at them, and they have to pick it up.

To your point, maybe you’re just getting older? There’s always been a small number of breakouts and a bunch of clones and shovel-ware. When you’re a kid, things are new and unlimited in their potential. As you get older, you realize that the game world is limited

I’ve had the same thought. When I finish a really good, lengthy, book it feels similar to when you lose touch with friends.

I don’t think people buying consoles are doing that kind of long term thinking

I do the package update stuff every session or so. It’s not a priority for me but the GUI has a little notification, so I just click it sometimes.

Bigger updates like moving to a new LTS of the distro- I put off. I’m on pop!_os now and mint previously.
