5700x cpu $339aud (on sale from $489), now $310 on sale
x570s gigabyte aorus master mobo $411aud (on sale from $522), now rare as hens teeth, on newegg for $700, on ebay for $900+
ram 2x16 3200 $152aud, now 3 castles, both legs, and a pristine fully sealed snes.
mobo was a weird buy anyway though, but does make me wonder what the options and prices are like now for am4 systems. Maybe they will start releasing new boards, or rerelease old ones…
Multiple reasons at the time, most of which I don’t remember, one of them was wanting higher speed usb-c which wasn’t available on a lot of other boards, in hindsight it would have been better, and cheaper to get a pci-e to usb-c card. The board also has the error code read out, a thunderbolt add in card connector, WiFi 6E, 4 x m.2s.
There was/is also the potential to replace the cpu with an x3d. Although the 5700x was a very deliberate choice and I am happy with it. I was never planning on moving to am5.
Jokes on you, I just bought parts for a new AM4 system yesterday. :) Though, to be fair, it’s just the CPU and motherboard. Using old memory.

You paid more for your motherboard than your CPU? Why?
