I’m only like an hour into the first one. Does the combat to cutscene ratio ever increase? I feel like I’m watching a movie. (One where the dialogue makes no goddamn sense.)

There is decent crossover. There’s an OOP from Alan Wake in the panopticon in control. I think I heard there was more in the DLC? Ahti also makes an appearance in Alan WAKE 2. They are all in the same universe. Alan Wake is basically just another AWE to the FBC.
The FBC is in Alan Wake 2, and one of the AW2 DLCs explores an FBC office that was set up to investigate Cauldron Lake.
Not just Epic exclusive, funded and published by Epic. It will probably never come to Steam, or at least not for a very long time.

And despite liking Alan wake and control, that decision has permanently offboarded me from their franchise because I refuse to use EGS. oh well!
That’s only the case for Alan Wake II. Control Resonant is self-published and available day one on Steam.
Not being able to play Alan Wake 2 makes me not want to play any more games in the series until I can, if ever.
Well one could download the games for free… It’s not my style for modern PC games, but its not like you aren’t able to play. ;-) Also maybe this will be an option in the future when emulation is good enough.

It’s an Epic exclusive I don’t feel salty about because iirc they said the game would have never happened without Epic. I’m not sure why but the games seem to not attract a lot of buyers, despite always being loved.

Well, on Epic Games Store most use it to access Fortnite. And for everyone else, Epic also has lot of giveaways of AAA games. Don’t know if they still do it, but that trains people not to buy too much games I suppose. This is a sideeffect of Epics plan. Why would they do it? This way people build a library and cannot afford to abandon Epic anymore. Maybe that changes in the future, but right now the Epic Store is like a graveyard where games go to die. (I’m just exaggerating for the lolz, don’t kill me.)
The first was so awesome with a game world being a claustrophobic labyrinth, female lead who shoots a gun and has unlockable abilities.
As someone who loved the original because it was essentially a third person metroid, will I like this one?
If you like the world? Probably. This is going to have a very different vibe being visibly mele focused. But Manhattan patterened in on itself looks plenty claustrophobic. And the gravity mechanic along with the rest of the mobility mechanics look like it will be a blast of a sandbox.
This is going to learn 'em to ever fall for the epic exclusive grift again. Last year they were whining about how they might have to shut down because alan wake 2 sold poorly.
