Before you get too excited though; if AI use is something you feel strongly about, you might want to look away from Harbour Masters. As popular as their ports are for various retro Nintendo games, they appear to be using generative AI quite a lot (from PCGamingWiki). Like a growing number of open source releases on GitHub, they appear to be using Claude and Copilot.

They have an AI Policy and all that notes “Harbour Masters is not an Anti AI organization, however, we are Anti Slop”.

They might be Anti-Slop for now with their leads and experience but when they retire or leave…

Just emulate it with Ares or Dolphin. I think Vimm’s Lair has at least one of the Paper Mario’s still.

The cool thing about decomps is less about the ability to play the game but more so the power to add QoL enhancements and mods. Plus now we have human developed readible code witch is better for preservation.

I meant more if someone has qualms with this project that there are alternatives. I myself, dont really have a problem with people doing this with AI. It’d be better if it was local of course and not feeding a corpo spyware complex, but this is a fine use case for the technology itself as nothing is really at stake here.
