Not necessarily. Major triple A studios are seeing sales wane, regularly recycled slop like assassins creed and battlefield they were pumping out doesnt sell well. Video games are selling better than ever, but lots of indie titles or smaller studios taking the wins. Im not talking as much about say rockstar as I am say the ubisofts and EAs of the world.

Maybe change is slow, but there are still thousands of people who are buying games from EA, Ubisoft and such companies. They are even buying from Macroslop.

I can only hope you are right and that indie games are seeing more sales.

Not everything needs multiplayer, especially a slower paced single player game.

P.S. This is not in defense of sony because fuck sony.

That depends, some games have lots of fun maps that would be cool to have an arena style game in. The multiplayer doesn’t have to reflect the single player story.

Anecdote on how thin skinned Sony is:

When Warframe went fully cross platform, it launched great, they had little icons for everyone’s systems so you could see that the loading times on the switch were horrible. (Hardware issue, no SSD)

Sony freaked out and their legal demanded that people only see their own platform and everyone else be generic.

Why? Because they were scared someone would be playing on an xbox and beat someone on a PS in pvp.

Several years ago Genshin Impact had to bribe Sony to get cross-platform support approved by adding Aloy, the protagonist of Horizon Zero Dawn, as a (shitty and blatantly unfinished) five star gacha character.

Sony was also the only company who didn’t want cross play with and to others. Remember when Epic “by accident” enabled cross play for Fortnite on Playstation. That was hilarious.

So the whole “pulling back on PC releases” actually has precedent within the company?

This is on the same level of Rockstar, who hates their user base, especially modders. I don’t understand why Sony did that. Maybe because there are no microtransactions, and those companies do not benefit from it? Also it takes the players busy, where they could play a free to play game with microtransactions instead. So maybe I answered my own question.

The only issue is, that fucking Sony does not offer a TLOU2 multiplayer!
