As the support documentation notes, the last Game Ready Driver for Windows 10 will be released in October of this year, after which there will be no more game and feature updates for Windows 10 users. However, NVIDIA will continue to provide security updates for Windows 10 until October 2029, which is four years after Microsoft’s end of life for the OS.

    – the linux claims. i dealt personally over years with broken nvidia hardware. patching manually the kernel so a noteobok will work. i doubt the kernel downgrade / version hardcoding is solved in 2026. it was not in 2023, the last time i tested for months a nvidia 960 in gnu gentoo linux again. Before i bought a radeon one, again.

    Always the people who tried Linux many years ago that complain the most lol

      Those older Nvidia cards haven’t got updates on Linux in many years, so their performance will always be worse on Linux than Windows and any driver issues aren’t going to be fixed.

      It’s just another reason why proprietary drivers suck.

      ffs rpmfusion akmod solved this way before 2023 and it still worked on old ass pre gtx hardware.

      Nvidia was always crap for wayland which is what got fixed recently or if you wanted an open source module because nouveau was the only option for a long time.

      proprietary nvidia drivers pretty much always worked because they use that stuff in the cloud. All they had to do was automate the install process and yet this fool is out here complaining about kernel patch on gentoo

        Not from a user point of view, but the amount of progress Linux has made in the last year or two is genuinely crazy, and where it stands today is completely different from where it was 3 years ago. That’s why it’s ironic that people keep sticking to years-old opinions as if they’re valid today. I totally get why they would think they’re still valid today, it’s understandable, and normally that might even be true. But they’re simply not valid criticisms in most cases anymore. This is the new form of Linux, this is desktop Linux, this is gaming Linux, this is Windows-replacement Linux. At long last, it is finally ready for the desktop. The year of Linux on the Desktop has arrived. It’s happening. I’m already there. Other people need to start getting onboard too.
