Can we stop putting BS into software? It neither does what it claims nor stays out of the way.
It’s because most big games are made live service to sell as much extra bullshit as possible over it’s “profitable” lifetime. They don’t want people just “cheating” in the bonus cosmetics or making modifications.
It’s completely unnecessary because if it’s server authoritative, then people will still buy cosmetics to have on the server side so other people can see them (more people seem to care about this than seeing their own cosmetics). If people want client only cosmetics, what’s the big deal?
I wonder how much anti-cheat is just government backdoors into PCs
