No one cares about Epic’s shitty product. Lol.
Most products.
Hopefully it paves the way to Unreal Engine. Unity sucks worse and while Godot is great, UE has advantages in many ways when building games.
Plus competition can only help. Steam taking a 30% cut is very significant and can really impact on Indie developers.
Fuck, no! Could this mean a starting incompatibility with Heroic, to force people to use Epic launcher? You all know the Epic launcher will be terrible, there is absolutely no fucking reason to use it over Heroic.
See there’s your problem. I won’t even accept free games if they require an Epic account.
Using heroic on windows, would hate to see it have issues because of this. But at the same time I do hardly ever acknowledge the free games I have on epic
They don’t get it. The reason steam is steam is because they’ve (Gabe) has made millions/billion off not being a piece of shit company. Despite them becoming the biggest online game retailer for PC, they still have humans look and your shit, they understand when something is bullshit and refund you, they still support games even if they’ve been delisted off steam
They’re probably the only company (big) in existence that has done everything to try to make people happy. Even times when I’m like “yeah I get why they’d deny me it’s legit” they still took care of me. I’ll continue to give steam my money.
Hard pass. Tim Sweeney can eat a bag of dicks.
While, I’m all for more software support for Linux, ew, the epic launcher…
pass
Maybe Linux usage is starting to affect corporate decisions. Good stuff.
They’ll pull support for this after a year or two just like they did for Rocket League and Unreal Tournament. Best to just not start using it when you know it’s temporary.
This looks like a Steam Road Map circa 2005:

Epic Parties
ok i guess this means like. friend lobbies for multiplayer games integrated within the launcher. or something like this
but seeing this with no context in a roadmap is very funny
The parties won’t be Epic if Tim Sweeney is there. 😔
the parties if tim sweeney is there:
PSA featuring the death of children (nothing graphic is shown)
So that means they start taking Linux seriously. Hopefully it does mean their games like Fortnite will support Linux too. For me the bridge is already burned and I don’t want to build it again. But I’m not the only person in the world and therefore this is only a good step in the right direction.
Also nice to see they get user reviews soon, lol. The images and post content from the linked Reddit post, in case you avoid Reddit:

Profiles look to finally be coming, third party patch notes among other big things. Some interesting things noticed on some of the pictures, picture 2 you can see “Controller support” and mentions Xbox and PlayStation controllers. There’s also a section to see “how my rig plays it?” suggesting it’ll show what settings you should be able to run the game at. You can also see on that picture that it mentions how many people have reviewed Arc Raiders so it seems like reviews will be getting overhauled too
Also seems to show what games your friends are playing
Things noticed in the pictures to look forward to imo:
- Profiles and Avatars
- Written reviews
- Universal Controller support
- Spec benchmarking (using hardware and the games spec sheet?)
- Third Party Communities (forums??)
- Third Party Patch Notes
- Cross Region gifting
- Publisher Funded Coupons
It’s also been confirmed there will be a Public Beta for the new launcher that will be announced through the discord server
EDIT:
The Epic employee that done the presentation is in the discord server and left a comment regarding the benchmarking for the new launcher and confirms that they’re not solely testing on the insane build mentioned in the slide:
There’s a lot of noise in the subreddit on the machine I used to test the launcher build on. We have been testing it across the 16 most common machine specs and the results are largely the same. When I was putting my slides together, I didn’t have the official benchmarks from our testing partner. The new launcher RIPS and it does not matter what machine you’re on. I’m really excited to get it to you all. (We’ve already started on the public build, just in burndown and lots of QA.)
Also it has been confirmed that the launcher is no longer being built with Unreal Engine, the underlying technology isn’t known but my guess is something to do with Rust as the newly announced SVC that Epic announced “Lore” is also built on Rust so might be some company wide initiative to use these kinds of tech, that’s just a guess though
No thanks, Linux is still mostly malware free so let’s keep it that way.
Soon, you can choose to not use EGS on Linux just as you choose to not use it on Windows. 😃
I’d rather buy a game for full price than get it free on epic. Tbh my disdain is a bit irrational. I use steam, why not epic? I’ve just always held it in some contempt as long as I can remember knowing about Epic.
This is … almost … making me think I should reconsider my stance. If I can’t recall the reasons, is it justified?
OTOH…meh, I’m not ambitious about looking up old Epic flaws.
Tim Sweeny is justification enough to not use anything associated with his company.
Unfortunately, way too many games are built on Unreal to ignore everything. 😔
Hopefully this also includes downloading/installing unreal engine in linux. It’s already supported, but the marketplace linking for assets and things can get janky in linux. Hopefully this gets smoothed out.
Epics launcher and asset store is widely mocked on for being janky on Windows too.
Hah, fair. I haven’t tried it in windows, I just assumed it would work properly. I guess that was assuming too much.
