Been trying to setup Nord VPN on my steam deck
Unsupported config so they wouldnt give me a flatpak script
open to suggestions, even from non hosers
Does nordvpn provide the option to just use wireguard or openvpn? Because that is almost always your best bet on linux, regardless.

Thank you - very promising info, appreciated
If you don’t want to stick with Nord, Proton VPN has an (unofficial) Flatpak GUI app, or alternatively lets you generate Wireguard configs you can import in KDE’s network settings (which allow you to auto-connect, but you would have to take care of a ‘killswitch’ yourself if you want 0 leakage)
Thank you for the suggestion - 3 year deal on Nord 70% off, so i’ll ride that out
Nord support was aware of SteamOS - “updates to follow”
Whatever you end up using, this might come in handy:
Thank you - have been using desktop and console successfully
a gaming mode native vpn would be cool
hoping Nord will drop a flatpak script - stays current and doesnt get wiped by steam updates
Network connections don’t get wiped. If you add a wireguard profile it will be persistent and you’ll be able to toggle it from the desktop and (with the help of the decky loader plugin) in game mode too.
Maybe not what you want, but have you considered VPN’ing at your router? Doesn’t help if you travel, so maybe worthless…
Thank you, good suggestion - I have considered this, and a pi hole
Securing end points for now…we’ll see what comes next xdd
I use Mullvad with a wireguard setup on my Deck
Sweet - any impact on performance?
Did you have to sideload anything, or create a su pwd ?
No, from desktop mode, I just had to set up a wireguard connection with the public and private keys.
It was pretty easy to find a guide on how to get it set up.
Did you get it working on a deck?
Platform doesn’t matter. It’s a simple OpenVPN profile. There’s nothing about Deck that makes this unusable.
