I just saw the newly created community !buyfromeu@lemmy.world which seems to be close to the creators of https://www.goeuropean.org/ .
While knowing, that it is good to spread the information about alternatives in a nicely designed and strategic way at places the people are, I try do get my head around, that they entertain instagram, facebook and linkedin accounts.
When accepting that those are the places to be and information people, I still have to ask, why they use softr, which hosts everything on Amazon services.
This feels inconsiderate and nothing I would like recommend.
Edit:
- They address some of the issues in their FAQ.
- They work on a new version of the website.
- Merch and affiliate links and no transparency report doesn’t sit well with me.
There’s a reason that community is completely empty and people are subscribed to this one here. Lemmy is not immune to hypocrisy and attempts to profit.
It is new. Just a few hours old.
Makes sense. Then, why are you not asking there? I assumed it was unresponsive/private.
My piece of cake would be to no be bothered by imperfect allies working towards a shared goal. If you don’t like them, leave them be and do your own thing.
Hard to argue with the basic sentiment, but I don’t like in transparency on that matter 🤷♂️
Totally fair to point out what you don’t like, share your concerns and ‘warn’ others. Definitely do not mean to discard this topic entirely.
I’m just cautious, if people try to brand an idea. Don’t get me wrong: they need to be financed and given a benefit of a doubt. But I’m used to finance projects (NGOs, servers …) via donations and have a spending report.
