He was old mate. With the report of his death came the release of his medical troubles. He was suffering from Alzheimer’s and Lewy Body Dementia. T’was simply his time to bid adieux and exit stage left. He earned his rest.

            Rationally you’re right.
At the same time it can suck and make you sad or mad or whatever.

But it is for the reasons stated above that this isn’t an event that should make someone sad/mad/whatever.

Be happy at the life they had and that he is now at rest without suffering. Take those irrational emotions and turn them into rational ones. Why let it be negative when it doesn’t need to be?

I don’t perceive being sad because someone is gone negative, but rather a totally normal way to feel.

Normal and bad/negative aren’t mutually exclusive.

Feeling sad initially isn’t like anything to feel shameful for. I’m just saying a good way to cope with that sad feeling, which I consider negative because sadness feels bad thus impacts my emotional state in a negative way, is to recontextualize our framing of the events into one we can feel differently about

Yes, he is gone and that is a sad thing, losing someone cherished always will hurt, but he is also now at peace and won’t suffer the horrors of onsetting Alzheimer’s and dementia and in that thought I can assuage my sadness into acceptance.

Emotionally it’s completely reasonable, but emotions are often irrational. Of course it’s reasonable to be upset that a man most of us grew up with is gone. However, the alternative is horrible - it would hurt me far more to see him waste away from Lewy Body.

I’m sad he’s no longer here, but I’m glad he isn’t suffering anymore.

We’re going to keep losing legendary entertainers one by one as time passes, but I can’t let myself feel that the world is lessened for their passing. New talent is always on the rise. But look at what they’ve left us! We should celebrate their greatness, and keep their stories close to our hearts. If I’d accomplished as much as him, at his age, I would face death without any regrets. I say we should celebrate him, rather than add his loss to our misery.
