Beguiling: ability that forces a creature to become the caster’s companion;
Siphon Vim: transfers health from a creature to the caster for several turns.
I got attacked by the puma and tried to fight back with Siphon Vim but quickly realized I’m not gonna win so I tried to beguile it and sure enough it worked.
But then it just kept losing health until it died :c
I had some trouble with that title but I got through it after about 3 tries 😆
It will take me many months to complete CoQ in Classic mode - at least that’s how long it took me to beat DCSS. I’m not very well-suited to winning roguelikes but I enjoy them nonetheless.
I need to play qud again. I got decently far on a run and stopped playing. It’s so hard
Bruh, that’d be the end of my run right there. This character charmed a big kitty cat to become their companion, then abused the animal’s trust by slurping up its life force to the point of death?? That character’s thirst is not mine, and we are DEFINITELY not water-siblings lol
Well, my goal for this character was to make the archetypal vampire so I don’t mind him being evil. Ulaad the Beguiler can be cruel as a treat.
Fair play, mission accomplished. Truth be told no run of mine has gotten to the point where my characters have the chance to be amoral. More characters than I care to admit have perished before even finding the first dungeon.
I just learned that you can be really cruel to the NPC who asks you to reach Six Days Stilt. Poor guy didn’t know who accepted his quest…
At least he may be at peace after the Machines slayed Ulaad in Grit Gate (the idiot forgot to find Droid Scrambler).
Oh wow, I just started playing this. What a gem.
I just died for the first time with my gunslinger character at level 5 at red rock, newbie times. Still learning!
It took me many hours to get used to the game! It felt almost uncomfortable to play at times, maybe because I didn’t utilize autoexplore in my first hours.
Good luck with Red Rock! It is a hard first quest but it teaches very important lessons, especially if you’re new to the genre.
Had such an unhealthy obsession with this game at it’s release. I was enamoured with it and would love to make some progression on it one day… funny how quickly you go from being sure “this is the run” to dying in that goddamn Rainbow Wood or Moon Stair.
The only constant of every roguelike is that when your run seems to go well prepare for the worst.
“I have rPois, demon whip and solid armor, I will handle Swamp just fine” - the last words of an unnamed DCSS player
Kinda sounds like an unintended effect there. But iirc siphon vim is on use and not like damage over time so that seems weird the puma kept dying after beguiling.
Unrelated, you should play a run as an office chair, its fun.

Nah it’s DOT:

But it shouldn’t last for so many turns! I literally managed to get to Kyakukya before it died.

Dominate is on my list of stuff to try. But at first I want to figure some basic stuff like companions (this run), cooking and tinkering.
Ooh yeah, theres no debuff clear when you beguile something either. Cooking is so important. Carbide chef is no joke so strong.
My current main build has Photosynthetic Skin so I’m basically always under its effect. It’s combined with Fasting Way (from Pilgrim start) so I just never run out!
Yeah but the buffs! You get special buffs with each thing you cook and Carbide Chef increases this by giving you “inspiration” for 2 days every time you explore something new. Then you just whip up a fire and get the best food buff picks of your life.
