Valve released another new Steam Client Beta update for all platforms on May 13th, bringing with it a few styling changes to Big Picture Mode and various fixes.
I pretty much only use big picture with gamescope as that gives the most consistent quality results. Otherwise steam utterly cannot handle high dpi monitors (I don’t think they even test this on Linux).
Hopefully they fixed the bugs like recommended games on the PDP escaping their div, selection not being able to reach elements, getting stuck on header elements as an island, the page forgetting your scroll position, etc.
I actually find Big Picture pretty good, I like it better than the default library experience too.

Yeah, desktop UI is arcane by today’s standards.
