This is why companies use DRM…
DRM doesn’t stop the publisher from hitting the release button
It does not. I’m not sure what the message of your reply implies.
From article:
Reports suggest that pirates were able to run the game shortly after accessing the leaked files
Publisher like to use DRM, so no one can play the game without paying. Especially if game leaks (or get hacked) before launch, and gets hacked and shared online. It’s not always effective, but the worst part is, that the paying customer/player has the worst experience. If new AAA games wouldn’t get hacked and shared early, then there would be a much less reason to add DRM.
The files were mistakenly uploaded by Playground Games themselves. DRM isn’t gonna stop them from accidentally uploading a version of the game with no DRM either (unencrypted and versions of these games that weren’t packaged for release).
Sure in this case. But the publisher see the game is being pirated a week before launch, then take harder measures. Next game will be online only and it hurts only those who pay for the game, while the pirates pirate it in a hacked form. I am talking about general, not this specific case only, in case it was not clear. Even if the game was uploaded by accident, pirates still pirate and share the game. And that’s the problem all publisher see and take hard DRM measures.
You can downvote me as you want, I am not the one who puts DRM into the games. I am not the publisher.
For the record I didn’t downvote you but I personally don’t agree since if the publisher isn’t going to be listening to logical reasoning anyways, then if this didn’t happen, they’d just use a different excuse to do it.
That said, for this game at least, given that this is a Microsoft game, doesn’t it already require a Microsoft account to play?
The Steam page does not list a requirement such as a Microsoft account. But it will probably require one. But doesn’t look like a real problem for hacker to get around it, if it even requires one. I assume its only required for online features, but I don’t know.
