Probably just bad writing. LLMs are generally good at avoiding awkward wording and their errors are more about the facts than grammar or writing style.
That looks like someone took a term from a technical document then (they or an editor) decided it was confusing and added the full name, and then added the acronym for short part so they could just continue using SPU, not noticing that it makes the acronym appear twice.
