A way bigger difference than I expected. I kinda wish they added Gamescope/Gaming Mode as another comparison point.

That’s misleading, there was a significant outlier. Gnome was on average slower, but not that much slower.

This is why I switched. I absolutely drool over Gnome UX/UI I find it clean and easier to use & navigate. But Plasma has always been faster to improve gaming related stuff. I guess Valve’s sponsorship is a great motivation.

The moment I switched was when Plasma got VRR, then it got HDR, I’m not leaving, even if I dislike it aesthetically.

I just wish those figma mockups that leaked a while ago would come true.

to be fair the beauty of Plasma is you can quite literally make it look like anything you want. Want to make it look like windows 98? it’s easily doable. CDE? yup if you want. something like windowmaker? sure thing.

I would suspect with a bit of work and the use of widgets it wouldn’t surprise me if you could make Plasma mimic GNOME.

Ooh, I had no idea such a thing might have an effect this pronounced. Definitely considering making the switch myself, between this and their recent VR mode work, gotta look into rebasing my bazzite image.

I rearranged plasma to look like gnome. There is also a gnome-like overview (default keybind super+w). Changed to gnome’s font (Inter, used to be cantarell). It’s pretty neat.
