Yuh, did I… did I read that right? The CTO came out, and did allllllll that yapping about how they’re “just like us, and sooo in touch with their community”… just to follow it up with an “actually you misunderstood bro” and then ten despicable paragraphs about how “90% of you shouldn’t care what happens to the other 10%”. Huh???
There’s been three weeks of backlash and the only remotely tangible thing they promised was to double down on this later. Yep, I’m deleting my account.
We hear you. We’re listening. We just don’t care.
Delaying rape is still rape. Time to leave
“We’re going to wait a few financial quarters then copy a bigger companies ID verification”
I know Discord has a lot of time and effort into formulating their exact position on this, justifying it’s necessity in the most verbose of terms and I want give them an equally measured response:
no
I really appreciate the amount of time, requisite thought, and dedication you put in to formulating this response. Well said.
All they’re doing is finding a new vendor, not canceling this plan entirely.
Plus fully admitting they have enough data on most users already to skip it is blatantly admitting to privacy violations.
Let them rot. Don’t let this shitty “we’re sowwy” post fool you.
Account’s already deleted, bozos. I will not be coming back.
The reputational damage has already been done and people still haven’t moved to a better and more sustainable solution, so why would they back down now?
