Just install the web app.
I forgot the name but in Bazzite there is an application called ‘Web Apps’ maybe. Search your app menu. It lets you put in a URL and it will make it an app.
Fluxer is a more complete European open source discord alternative. I would check it out too. http://fluxer.app/
Rpm package overlay could work but I don’t like to recommend it. I’d imagine it’d work just fine from the browser. May be a flag that can be set to enable PWAs on Linux desktops.
E: totally forgot but like, the unpacked assets should run just fine. For some reason I thought it was available through rpmfusion. You can disregard the package overlay remark.
Thankyou. Though I do not understand most of what you’ve written. I am very much at the must-be-handheld-through-most-things stage of the Linux journey. Flathub has been a god-send for this very reason.
right, no problem. The Linux build of Stoat from the website is packaged as portable, precompiled binaries that you can run from any Linux system, immutable (like bazzite, silverblue, steamOS) or not.
It’s like any electron app (Discord, StandardNotes, etc) and should generally be good to go from the download.
PWA = Progressive web app, which is a relatively recent web technology that let’s you “appify” a website (given it’s permitted to do so). This can improve the experience of certain web apps and have them behave more like native ones to an extent. I think PWAs would be a suitable stand-in for electron apps like stoat but the experience may vary based on whether you use chrome(ium) or firefox
After much bumping my head against a wall I found the Web Apps program in the Application Launcher (where the Start button is in Windows) > Internet > Web Apps. This let me do the Progressive Web Apps thing you spoke of.
Ooft! This is going to be a long journey for me, eh? XD
huh that’s cool. all sorted then!
long journeys tend to be good ones.
If that doesn’t work wouldn’t installing the RPM in a distrobox and exporting to host be another option? I haven’t done this, so I don’t know if this would work with notifications etc.
I think that might be preferred to package overlay, yeah!
If you must be handheld you have two options, either very much do whatever gets you out of your comfort zone to have an opportunity to learn, or absolutely dont use flathub or any other nonstandard installation source.
