It seems that Bazzite issues with hubris / big egos is beyond what I thought.
If half of that is true, they have a huge governance problem at hand.
Drama within a Linux Distro/open source project? I’ve seen this episode before…
I’ll be honest with you at this point if I personally stopped using something on linux be it a distro or FOSS based purely on posts or stuff like this I’d probably be back on Windows because I’d have nothing left to use.
I’m guessing there’s drama inside Microsoft too, we just don’t usually hear about it lol
Read the first paragraph. This person sounds like someone who is butthurt that his work was forked and they were made obsolete. If someone took what I started and ran with it, I’d just be glad that I started something and move on.
I’m sure there is drama in the project. There is drama in every OSS project. Unless it hinders the project from delivering a functional system…who cares? Get over yourself.
i thoroughly fart on this shit

My favorite comment of the year so far. Thank you for making my day.
The warning sign that’s making me doubt all of this is plainly Antheas’s lack of evidence in his essay.
No screenshots, links, signatures: nothing. Just his word.
Jesus Christ who cares
Governance drama
<laughs in NixOS
That all seems pretty typical of volunteer organizations.
As with most single-party testimony provided after the fact, we can assume:
- 25% is fact
- 25% is fiction
- 25% is unverifiable regardless
- 25% is just plain made up
And none of it is necessarily malicious. Humans are just flawed creatures, and social relationships can often degrade over time.
And a 100% reason to remember the name

RIP, this whole thing is stinky. But at least now I know I will be choosing Arch for my new desktop.
So when is the libre Arch-Game distro going to come out?
I use EndeavourOS and it works quite nicely
😯👩🏫👀 🙇♀️
same. it’s perfection
it already is. it’s called SteamOS
Wait, steam os is arch based?
it is, yes
libre
Arch already is that since all of Valve’s additions go upstream
with 0 setup‽
No computer requires 0 setup. Not even the Steam Deck or a Windows PC.
ah, fellow setup purist.
Does it pass the toddler test?
WTF is up with people being such insecure assholes? Sounds like they need some starvation. There’s real problems in the world that need solving.
Kyle always had some opinions if you deviated from his usage ideas, both here and on reddit
Has the relationship with ublue broken down?
A lot of what these derivative distros do will eventually be a sysext you can install on upstream Fedora atomic.
Ive seen a good few negative interactions with him on the Bazzite discord
Seeing as software dev is full of stubborn, opinionated autists (might be projecting a bit here hehe) I’m not at all surprised
I never quite understood what people saw in Bazzite. Fedora is cool, but Fedora Atomic is kinda crap so why base anything on it?
People say crazy shit like “I installed Linux and it actually works! Wow this Bazzite thing is awesome” when 99% of the linux distros you install also work after installation. Working is not a magical feature, believe it or not.
Because the current fad is atomic distros bazzite shoves it’s head everywhere so people slobber all over it.
When 99% of people would be better served using something like mint or pop for day to day tasks or cachyOS for the exact sort of gaming “ease” they used bazzite for.
As someone who’s had to help a LOT of people swap over to Linux in the last year. Bazzite with out fail has been the single biggest fucking headache every time someone stubbornly tries to use it.
It’s fantastic, right up till you fucking try to do ANYTHING at all. Then it’s a minefield of fucking problems hard nos and requires more knowledge to actually do anything then just using arch would.
Atomic distros are terrible for new users and gamers alike and yet that’s who these stupid ass fucking distros keep getting yeeted at.
it’s a mindless install. If you want something to just play games on, maybe stream stuff, then Bazzite makes it easy and you don’t have to think about it. IF you’re looking to potentially do MORE on bazzite like dev wok or whatever than yeah, there’s much better distros to use for that. Sure you can circumvent all this utilizing like Distrobox or whatever but honestly if you’re going that route then why are you using Bazzite? If you’re looking to make hard things easy and easy things hard just get on NixOS. and I say that as a NixOS user.
This is my use case. If something additional isn’t offered as a flatpak, I need to rely on either distrobox and bottles or just accept the hard no for incompatibility. I’m of the mind that if those tools are something you have to employ nearly daily for things you regularly use, you are pushing the distro beyond its intended scope and it actually doesn’t meet your needs. People should be using the applications they want to use and pick distros that accommodate them, not entertaining alternatives or McGyvering together workarounds to accommodate the distro.
I currently run a mix of Ubuntu, fedora and bazzite machines at home and by far my favorite is bazzite. I may be a bit different as I work with containers, docker and k8s every day but it did take a little for it all to “click” for me. Once it did I’ve had no issues running anything with bazzite. On the other hand the number of hours I’ve spent chasing down issues on the Ubuntu machines due to dependency conflicts is embarrassing. Those issues simply do not happen with bazzite and the time I’ve spent learning the new mentality has been more enjoyable and significantly less than fixing problems on either distro. The atomicity and forcing isolation using containers is a paradigm shift, looking at is as workarounds, distro limits and Mcgyvering sort of misses the forest for the trees, but I get that its not for everyone
I’m enjoying bazzite myself as it fits my needs and just use distrobox to run an Ubuntu and Fedora container to cover most of the bases. I just don’t like to look at OSs through any rose tinted sunglasses just because I like the thing. So many people are learning that the hard way with windows right now. There are plenty of use cases where you’d set yourself up for better success and ease of use looking at a different distro than you would trying to work around Bazzite. I’m just not gonna shill for Bazzite as a distro fit for everything because it’s not.
TLDR: its not that it just works, but that it basically always just works
Ease of setup, difficult to break, and most things that the atomic setup makes otherwise difficult are trivially easy to workaround with Distrobox.
Ease of setup.
Do people normally set up a gaming console, program after widget, just to play a game?
I’m running a pure gaming PC in my living room with Bazzite and I love it for that. In pretty much any other situation though it doesn’t make much sense.
Same, and same.
Nobara is interesting
it was good but I recently tried it again and removed it within 30 minutes. the default Nobara repo for stuff honestly didn’t have much in it and sure that’s an easy fix to circumvent, the initial bloat with all the brave crap wasn’t a great new/first impression. Also after all this time the Nobara updater is still busted.
If you want a Fedora fork that is similar to Nobara, there are better options.
Mhm, the fact that the maintianer bloated it with Brave browser is a big no for me.
Its decent, but they have a take it or leave it approach (very opinionated) - which is good for people that don’t particularly have specific needs or don’t care too much and just want to get into Linux.
It’s a better start than Ubuntu. Have to tweak any distro anyway.
