  • No… Not intrinsicly. Epic is about as anti consumer as you can get. And they are even more anti developer then steam is.

They just ass fuck devs via unreal engine and eac along with poaching games for extremely fucked exclusively deals. So the epic store it self looks “better” because they can abuse it as a loss leader and basically not invest into it at all.

Epic store isn’t real competition. It’s a competitor only so far in that it’s a digital store. But its like comparing Walmart to bestbuy.

If epic had its way everything would be worse then it so it can be on top. Not because it’s better but cause it’s made everything around it worse so it looks better by comparison.

It’s the entire reason the joke valve does nothing and wins. Because they don’t give a single fuck what other stores do and just focus on themselves and make sure they arnt abused for the services they offer.

So the worse thing you can say about valve is they have some restrictions on devs that prevent them from abusing services to the point it degrades the consumers experience.

Other then that it’s just industry standard stuff that sucks, mostly because outside of only steam no other store actually justifies the costs and downsides of digital distribution.

  • Because the current fad is atomic distros bazzite shoves it’s head everywhere so people slobber all over it.

When 99% of people would be better served using something like mint or pop for day to day tasks or cachyOS for the exact sort of gaming “ease” they used bazzite for.

As someone who’s had to help a LOT of people swap over to Linux in the last year. Bazzite with out fail has been the single biggest fucking headache every time someone stubbornly tries to use it.

It’s fantastic, right up till you fucking try to do ANYTHING at all. Then it’s a minefield of fucking problems hard nos and requires more knowledge to actually do anything then just using arch would.

Atomic distros are terrible for new users and gamers alike and yet that’s who these stupid ass fucking distros keep getting yeeted at.

  • I can fucking begrudge them. If they don’t like to don’t fucking make it or share it.

You can and are free to make art for the sake of your own enjoyment. But fuck off if you feel like your entitled to get paid for working off the back of someone else’s effort just because you wasted your own time on it.

If you wanted to make money then go make your own thing for that purpose.

No one is entitled to get paid for their efforts. And no one is entitled to be allowed to make money off someone else’s labor.

Two brain cells rubbed together should make it really obvious that wasting years of your life on something someone else made to try to make money is a bad idea.

We all take a risk when we do something new and hope to make enough money to make it all worth it. No short cuts.

  • The licence involves with the os, the tooling, the development environments explictedly allow for these things.

You can not be this fucking stupid can you?

If you make something you get to dictate how others use it, if you choose to have it be free and open that’s your choice. Just as it is if you wish for it to be restricted. It’s common fucking courtesy to not steal.

Modders cant make what they make with out the assets and game. They are using someone else’s property.

For example thats the entire fucking crux of things like say OpenMW vs Tamriel rebuilt. One is a standalone product that doesn’t reuse assets or has any dependencies on Bethesda assets. While the other reuses them all over the place.

OpenMW could charge for their product. It’s worthless with out the game, but still is entirely a functional standalone thing. The other literally can’t function with out someone else’s assets.

  • I wouldn’t remotely call valve the devil of drm.

Like fuck, the majority of games on steam have no drm. It’s almost exclusively triple A games that wouldn’t be sold on gog ever because the companies making them want drm of some form. So it’s a moot point. And for the remaining games with it, it’s almost exclusively “drm” in the form of a single dll that hooks into steams client so cloud storage and the overlay can work… And it’s optional. And client side with no checks and can easily be removed.

Out of the 1000+ games in my steam library I have less then 80 with drm, or even need the steam client running at all to launch.

I just flat out have never understood how people think steam is some drm monster when they give so little fucks that it’s entirely and fully a developers choice.

Like hell I just make a zip back up of my games. That’s all gog installers are after all. You download once from their servers and you just have an installer, steam is exactly the same it just auto unzips it for you. If you want a installer you can just… Make your own.
