Sounds like you worked it out. I also had some issues with my older card and found that installing the gnome version helped. Not sure why KDE is fine with my 3080 but for the 1080 that just would not fly. I couldnt even get to the desktop, after login it was just a blank screen. Just a heads up in case you or anyone else has more issues.
I mean I wouldn’t say worked it out quite yet, I’m about to do a fresh install and I expect a great deal of BS in my near future of last time is anything to go by
