would probably take like 2 to 3 days to write zeros across the entire disk. but hardware or software based full disk encryption can make ‘erasing’ a disk (make the data irretrievable) very fast.

i dunno. i just worked on one of their ‘gaming’ rigs. weird chinese-branded everything. 3 months old, won’t stay running. crashes constantly. re-installs don’t help. it’s trash. the vendor has all but disappeared. still has their storefront but they don’t answer, and amazon won’t help either.

even though i swapped out the atrocious no-name motherboard so now it’s at least usable, i expect to see it again with a failed psu, gpu, or ram.

they might make it on availability or price, but longevity or reliability they have a lot of work to do.

this is not gonna end well for the company or its games… so the only thing i can think of is it’s simply a big a smoke screen for some financial shenanigans.

last one i bought new was a 5670, early 2010. was about $75 for what was at that time the best you could get that didn’t need extra power. it was by far the most expensive part in the pc (which i still have and use) i put together back then (sales and substantial rebates were everywhere back then)

the last one before that, and only other one i bought new at retail, was an old agp ati aiw card for a pc-based dvr. i still have that system too, but it’s long been obsoleted by digital hd tv and digital encrypted cable that requires their equipment.

i put iot on something here for some testing and it did quite well with latest drivers.

My base starting point parts list (full build with 9800x3d, 64GB/4TB, 9700xt) was 2000usd about five months ago when it was last used to base a build on.

It’s currently ‘down’ to about 3400 after peaking last week at over 3500. The excess is nearly entirely from RAM and SSD prices.

drm on linux to watch commercial services like prime or netflix sucks. there is no browser or linux distribution that will give the same level of drm that a closed system’s native browser can (edge on windows, chrome on android, safari on mac/ios).

you can still watch most anything, just perhaps not with as high a quality and you may need to fudge a ua string or something.

vertical tabs have been in firefox since ~ v136.

just use firefox. tweak settings as necessary for your ‘needs’, including enabling the drm which is disabled by default by most distributions.

the actual ‘end of service’ dates for win7 (with the max 3 years esu) and 8/8.1 all occurred during the first half of 2023… so they gave a whole six months of extra life on those versions.

me neither. best is a 1070. don’t play newer ‘demanding’ games, nor do i have a system ‘worthy’ of a better card anyway.
