I’m trying out Bazzite again after about a year with CachyOS because I don’t have time for tinkering anymore and only play games maybe once a month or so. Anyway, I’m playing some Hitman tonight and noticed this lighting bug a few times. I remember seeing it in Cyberpunk 2077 when I was using Bazzite about a year ago too, shortly before I switched to CachyOS. Does anyone know what’s causing it and how to fix it? If it’s a big deal to fix I won’t bother as I don’t have much time for computers, and don’t want to spend most of that fixing a bug. I took a couple more pictures too, I’ll show below.

If it’s important at all, this is pretty much a clean install, I haven’t done any tinkering at all and have barely downloaded anything either. I downloaded a VPN, a password manager, and otherwise I think everything else is what came with the distro. I have the game running from an external HDD if that makes a difference. I played the game a couple months ago on CachyOS with zero issues.
Hitman 2016 has a native linux version which is broken. My experience was exactly like your screenshots. Try the windows version instead.
I think Stardew and Rimworld are the only games i’ve played where the native linux versions werent completely fucked up and broken in some way.
So I pretty much always recommend playing the windows version via proton.
Good to know, I appreciate hearing that. I’ll definitely try that the next time I’m on my computer again.
You’re so lucky, this is the foil version of the game! Very rare.
I want this wallaper.
Hope your gpu is not dying bud
This doesn’t happen on the person, only in the wall. The lightning on the back of his head is good, so this is a shader issue probably
Vram errors can cause simílar glitches.
Those usually affect the whole image independent of the objects limits in the 3d space.
This is not true. Different shaders could be stored in different parts of the memory, so a VRAM issue could definitely affect only specific surfaces. Other GPU issues might affect the whole image but it’s not a sure thing.
That might be true. Honestly it doesn’t align with my personal experience but that doesn’t make it impossible. Subjectively unlikely though. :p
Especially in this economy
DXVK cache lingering between driver versions has occasionally gotten me similar effects. You can delete the shader cache in the proton prefix and see if that helps.
I think that’s an error with prebaked lighting effects, because it’s hard to see why it would give those square texture error style glitches otherwise
How would I go about doing that?
Upload entire filesystem to https://grokdeepseekinsideollamasgpt.ai/ and ask it for the meaning of life. It will print out a 8 page long story for you to parse thru while some russian opens floodgat3s on your router so you can croud source with china on how to find your chache folder!
You okay, buddy?
Slightly off topic i guess, but in confused what needs tinkering on cachy. Just need to update sometimes?
Sounded like games ran just fine on cachy and you changed for what reason?
Was about to post the same comment, I’m genuinely curious.
I was wondering this myself. Launch options? You click on “return to game mode” to start gamescope instead of putting the sequence of commands in the launch options.
When I had a GPU overheat I started seeing RGB dots everywhere. Not quite the same as this, but I’d be a bit worried it might be a hardware issue.
I can’t help you, but I gotta say that is a cool effect. Some game should do that intentionally for a character who’s on mushrooms.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing actually. These screenshots were from the Chongqing level, which in the game is like a neon city, so in some areas this lighting effect was actually quite good looking.
I’m not sure what you mean. Isn’t that how everyone else sees the world too?
Found the dude on LSD
Depends on a huge amount of variables, but it looks like a texture rendering issue with lighting for whatever GPU you’re running. Check the various code repos for your rendering issue, or the Proton issues and see if others are reporting it.
Also check protondb.com to see if others have a fix.
What version of proton are you running? Cachy has its own version that works great, I’m using it on arch via the AUR altho I don’t run cachy. Idk what bazzite comes with.
Do you only see this issue on bazzite?
There are other arch based distros you might have better mileage on if you keep having this issue with bazzite but want something different than cachy, like endeavorOS.
Also protondb you can filter by hardware to get even better results.
You can use Cachy proton on Bazzite by simply selecting it in the compatibility options. It’s one of the versions in the drop down menu.
The game itself still needs to run the cachy proton, it is unclear if they are setting any proton version or just using the steam default
I don’t think I understand what this comment is trying to convey
I got this glitch in FH5 in Windows. I have seen it slightly more frequently after switching to Linux, but it still nearly never happens.
Try a different proton version. Do you know how to do that or do you need some assistance? Assuming this is being played from Steam using Proton.
In addition to that, play around with the graphics/video settings. Could be related to something like DLSS or frame generation.
