It took a while, but seems like they eventually got it sorted?

If you’re having a hard time getting into it, I’d skip all the side quests until you get to Novigrad. I started and dropped it a few times because I got bored of wandering around the swamp, but to me the game comes alive in Novigrad
Oh yeah those things are great. Used the precision when I went back to school to finish up a degree and is still my primary laptop, a thinkpad for my 3d printers, another thinkpad as a Jellyfin server, and my dad used the other precision for a few years, but now that just sits as a backup laptop at my parents house.
Some of my coworkers sold some of the laptops, but that kind of sketched me out because they have “Property of [company I used to work at] Serial No.######” laser etched on top lol
Yeah my “new” pc is even pretty old at this point, but I have like 3 desktops from the Haswell era, and they all still work just fine.
And I have a gaggle of coffee lake era thinkpads and dell precision laptops that I dumpster dove right after my shift when I used to work in IT lol. One small plus to giant multinational companies not giving a fuck about the environment I guess. Just had to replace drives and sometimes keyboards or displays on my those.
Benefits of being a tech hoarder. I’ve got backups. And an unexpected benefit of the slowing of tech advancement is that stuff that’s 10+ years old still holds up pretty well.

The steam deck uses whatever the hell that is. And the laptops I’ve torn into in the last 10+ years use all kinds of connectors.
I’m assuming it’s because they’re doing all the battery management on the motherboard, not a separate bms in the battery pack. But some standardization would be great.
Or at least standard connectors to make modding easy. I get using a weird shaped battery in a handheld to maximize battery life in a compact device, but would be nice if it was an easy to find connector so you could just glue a battery pack to the back of it (or 3d print a new shell), so you can easily keep it going if/when that battery becomes unavailable.
Yeah I’m expecting a repeat of the video game crash of ‘83. I expect some of the behemoths of the industry to go belly up, but I expect smaller studios to survive, or even benefit from the bigger players dissolving.
And games have looked super good enough for like 10+ years. If the future of gaming on your own hardware is tiny arm based chips, we’ll be just fine. Even in the current hardware shortage, there are a ton of $200 handhelds that can play a ton of games.
Pardon my Linux ignorance, but how much work would it be to switch from Manjaro to Cachy? Been running Manjaro for about two years, but have been thinking about switching since I’ve started using my desktop as a Jellyfin server, and Manjaro doesn’t support h264 or h265 hardware acceleration. And Cachy seems like where it’s at right now for gaming.
Is it mostly just copying over the home folder and reinstalling apps? Or would I run into similar issues as doing a “dirty” windows reinstall, with broken paths and a lot of “lost” junk folders floating around? Would love to hear from some distro-hoppers
Realistically voting in politicians that care about digital ownership is the strongest way to prevent this march towards an “own nothing” future. Not just in France, but globally.
Unfortunately most normies don’t care, which is why the “just don’t buy it then” approach continues to not yield significant results. We need enough people in politics to get things like Stop Killing Games passed. Clearly they don’t give a shit about how many people sign a petition.
I just don’t think they were expecting that much demand for a controller. Last time they made a controller they ended up basically giving them away because pretty much nobody wanted them. I bought the 1st gen steam controller for $5 + shipping. I’m assuming they really didn’t want a repeat of that

Maybe one day the bubble will pop and we’ll get a fresh wave of innovation. An upgradeable SBC based handheld is a very interesting proposition
I kind of love that. Would be cool to see if it’s livable as a primary smartphone.
That said, the form factor does seem pretty restrictive on what games you’d want to play. The vertical format would make any wider aspect ratio games pretty much a no-go on that
I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s another spinoff like Alyx that releases with the steam frame.
