Shocking, different developers develop games differently. Astounding even.

Is this because more people are using Linux, or because less people are using desktop/laptop computers in general? GenZ/Alpha are basically just about phones these days, and large numbers of older generations are probably moving that way, if just because of the cost of PCs now.

Not saying interest in Linux isn’t growing… but I’d imagine it’s less about that and more about traditional computers just not being as much of a thing for non-enthusiasts. Enthusiasts being the most likely to make the switch.

Where did I say it was natural and inevitable? I said that the current conditions feed on themselves, not that it can never change, or that it shouldn’t.

I mean, obviously it takes more than getting rid of people that seem to prop up the system as it is. The system creates those people as much as it is created by them. Its not like the world would magically transform onto a magical utopia if we suddenly got rid of the capital class. Others would simply seize the opportunity to become the new capital class.

The same would happen if we just did the opposite, get rid of the system. Those same people would still push anything that replaces it into where it was before.

It will take more than a one-liner to effectively change the world.

Regardless, just because it’s not your reason for using it doesn’t mean it’s not a major factor in why it’s successful in general.

One is a bunch? It also seems as though that particular game wasn’t even on any other storefront, just their own website. Hardly seems comparable.

Itch is also a much different beast, it’s less a storefront and more a platform for developers to promote and sell their games independently. The pages seem designed and run by the devs and not Itch. It would make sense to not have a cart with that kind of decentralized design. You’re not buying from Itch, youre buying from developers themselves.

Valve paid a bunch of publishers to sell their game exclusively on steam and refused to implement basic features (like a shopping cart) in their UI? Then bitched about how everyone more successful than them was evil and wrong?

And yet they still push innovation, both in software and hardware.

Theyre certainly not angels, but they’re far closer than just about anyone else at their level.

Probably because Valve didn’t, some guy who used to work for Valve did.

I mean, imagine all the AI slop game companies that would go out of business cause they couldn’t sell on Steam anymore…
