Microslop pulling from Steam is likely to effectively kill or close to kill their gaming division. They’ve already trained their players to be on PC with game pass and if those players want to own one of those games they’re most likely going to buy it on Steam.
Not sure another full XBox console release is going to go well for them anyhow.
Peripherals can be finicky on Linux since drivers like to fight for priority.
Slightly related: if you’re using Wayland you may also want to make rule exceptions for controllers/remote input. That pop up box is annoying to track down and re-confirm every 15 minutes when you’re not in the same room.
Once it’s sorted it’s smooth sailing though and no surprise 30 minute restarts a la Windows :)

Finished Creature Kitchen, which was charming and bite-sized. Loved the retro inspired graphics.
Alternating between replays of Cult of the Lamb and Chicory: A Colorful Tale. Dabbling in Cyberpunk when I’m home and feel like firing up my desktop so I can stream it since my Steam Deck doesn’t handle it locally at the levels I want it to.
Also got a gift copy of The Force Unleashed so will probably try that out this weekend too 😄
If I get into modding that’s another 30+ hours just on installation but could be a fun rabbit hole! Do you have any recommendations for mods?
I finally got Cyberpunk since it was on sale and been playing it on my Steam Deck. I’m only a few hours in but I’m blown away by how pretty and performant the game is.
I typically scoff at AAAs, especially after CP77’s initial release, but they seem to have smoothed out quite a lot and filled out missing chunks. I can see myself sinking the next few weeks of free time into this one.

Coral Island. Was gifted to me over the holidays as just-another-stardew-clone but it’s actually really cute and addicting.
Took a while to hit a decent groove but once I got to that point it’s actually a lot of fun top to bottom.
Even unreal engine 4 can be rough on mid-range specs.
Playing an 8GB UE4 game on my steam deck I’d get drops to 17 FPS in some spots.
Epic’s had a rough go for the last decade+ at this point.
It’s like zen reverse coloring. You can also upgrade your equipment to be more powerful and there’s soaps you can buy with the in-game money you get from completing jobs.

I hope I’m wrong; market success on this could stand to break at least some of the corporate living room triumvirate (though I’m not sure how popular Xbox is anymore tbf) and further development for Linux as an “it just works” system in a more mainstream context.
It’ll be an extremely niche market - the narrow range of nerdy PC players who don’t want to buy a laptop or a regular prebuilt, and don’t want to bother building their own.
A huge chunk of the Deck’s success is in its form factor. I don’t see much ROI on the Machine in that aspect.
I have high hopes for the Frame though.
All positive publicity is good, the more people outside our little niche bubble are exposed to it the better.
Killing Windows influence in gaming wherever possible is an improvement.
Oh god I’m sorry modding on Linux is painful. I did it some years ago but it’s been a minute - my best guess would be to use LOOT (Load Order Optimization Tool) since that spits out very specific package/dependency issues in text form.
Hopefully you can get it sorted, Godspeed in the meantime. /gen
Does Sable count? It has ~6k reviews on steam. It’s a really unique environmental exploration game with a sweet story (to minimize spoilers) and there’s a lot you come across accidentally and it feels satisfying and like it’s your own journey, in a way.
Also Mudborne. It’s about $8 and has 620 reviews, and the breeding mechanics are fun and tinker-y. Unlocking areas and figuring out puzzles in the name of frog conservation!
Garden Story is also a cute, easy enough, Zelda-like as is Ogu and the Secret Forest, with about 1k reviews each. Less “weird” and more “adorable” but still enjoyable.
Last but not least, I will always recommend Jazzpunk. it’s 6k total reviews across 11 years so hopefully that’s obscure enough but it’s super duper weird in the best way. Play it at least once and you’ll never forget it.
Maybe. I know someone who wiped their Legion clean and installed an Arch-based OS and still had the BIOS-brick issue. No idea if they managed to fix it themselves yet but it’s not purely a Windows problem.
